i have not downloaded the windefender2009. but i am getting the pop-ups. so how to stop that.
i tried hijackthis and i even hav posted the logfile please help me.

I am having the same problem. It is driving me nuts. What can we do…I don’t want to get on anything because it says that I am infected. I did not download the windefender but I am getting nasty pop-ups. Help!!!!

Caesar, it isn’t a program. It is a virus that redirects your browser both IE and Firefox to their website to sell you software that doesn’t work. It is a fake.

Solution I have used and it works for me.
1. Temporarily Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
2. Update the virus definitions.
3. Reboot computer in SafeMode
4. Run a full system scan and clean/delete all infected file(s)
5. Delete/Modify any values added to the registry.
Navigate to and delete the following registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\”WinDefender 2023″ = “C:\Program Files\WinDefender 2023\WDefDemo.exe”
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\”C:\DOCUME~1
\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\delwdef2008.bat” = “C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\delwdef2008.bat”
Navigate to and delete the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinDefender 2023
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WinDefender 2023
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FwHookDrv
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\FwHookDrv
6. Exit registry editor and restart the computer.
7. In order to make sure that threat is completely eliminated from your computer, carry out a full scan of your computer using AntiVirus and Antispyware Software. Another way to delete the virus
