AntiMalware GO (AntiMalwareGO) Virus Removal Guide

Virus Type: Rogue Security Application
Threat Level: 8 / 10

AntiMalware GO, which is also known as AntiMalwareGO, is a fake antimalware program. Antimalware programs are used to block and remove malware; however, since AntiMalware GO is fake, the program will not remove or block any malware. AntiMalware GO was released around February 25; however, this type of virus is not new. The virus comes from a family of fake antivirus programs, which include Antispyware Soft and AV Security Suite. AntiMalware GO has a slightly different look but has a similar interface to Antispyware Soft and AV Security Suite. The program is a copy of Antivirus Scan, AntiVira Av, and Antivirus .NET. The main similar feature that these fake programs have is that they block a majority of executable files, making it hard to remove the virus. AntiMalware GO will block all applications unless the file name of the executable of the application is iexplore.exe or firefox.exe since AntiMalware GO doesn’t block Internet Explorer or Firefox. AntiMalware GO needs Internet Explorer and Firefox so that they can redirect the user to their website. Similar to most fake antivirus programs, AntiMalware GO is generally installed through the use of a trojan horse, which is generally downloaded while browsing the internet.

Once installed, AntiMalware GO will set itself to startup automatically. AntiMalware GO will also generally modify Internet Explorer settings to force the browser to go through a proxy server. This will make the browser only able to go to the website of the virus. By changing the settings back, the user may be able to visit the web. In order to fix the issue, go to your internet explorer browser and click on Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, and LAN settings. Next, uncheck the box by “Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dail-up or VPN connections).”

If task manager has been blocked by AntiMalware GO, try using Process Explorer. If AntiMalware GO blocks Process Explorer, rename Process Explorer to iexplore.exe or firefox.exe. AntiMalware GO will generally not block the com version of Process Explorer, which can be downloaded here.

Another method to open task manager is to restart the computer and attempt to open task manager before AntiMalware GO loads so that AntiMalware GO can’t block task manager. AntiMalware GO will generally displays the following warning when opening an application (however, it will not display the message if the filename is explorer.exe) -

“Security Warning
Application cannot be executed. The file [filename].exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software?”

Other messages displayed by AntiMalware Go include:

“Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now.”

“Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan – dropper or similar.”

It is recommended to use safe mode when removing the virus because AntiMalware GO will generally not be able to load in safe mode. To enter safe mode, restart the computer and press F8 multiple times before the Windows screen to bring up the boot options.
