I was hit with the Virus.Win32.Virut.ce a few days. Since I did not have any anti virus installed, I was not quite sure why something weird happened to my laptop.

I used to have an anti virus program installed on my laptop years ago. Since I was never hit with a virus, I decided to uninstall the program. And I never had any problem with any kind of virus for the past several years. Not until last week when I came across Virut.

I was not even sure what was causing my laptop to behave erratically. Initially, the explorer stopped working and I could not see any icons on the desktop. There was a message stating that the Windows protected mode had to close down the command prompt because it was damaging my system.

I thought it was weird since I did not run the command prompt and yet the message wanted to close it. Oh…oh… I began to think it had something to do with virus but I was not certain because I did not any anti virus program installed. After poking around to get the explorer to start, I decided to restart my computer and entered the safe mode.

I manually checked the Windows folder and I found there were quite a few suspicious files and did not look like Windows files.

To make the story short, I finally realized I was hit with some kind of virus and started to install Kaspersky on my laptop. But it was a little too late. The damage had been done. I had to reformat my laptop, but even after formatting, the laptop was still infected.

Now the situation is under control. There are a few files still infected. Those infected were replaced with fresh ones from the installation CD. I used Kaspersky Internet Security 2023, AVG’s rmVirut, and Symantec’s VirutFix and combofix to clean my laptop.

Okay 1 day has passed since i got this pesky virus win32 virut. Seems that the Avg virut remover did the job on removing all the infected files from my machine. But since the virus hit alot of my .exe files alot of my programs are not working and a format seems to be my only solution. Other then that it seems that the virus also contained a backdoor or keylogger. My world of warcraft account was hacked and all my items and characters was sold or deleted. The latest AVG anti-virus scan of my PC, came up empty so i really hope i got rid of this damn thing.
