Hello Beowulf! I’m posting here because of what you told us would help erase the winesm32.exe trojan. This virus was installed on my computer today (March 1st, 2024) and although I tried to stop it from running, it apparently ruined part of my disk drive (at least that’s what I think, or maybe I’m just assuming that). First, I stopped it from running when my computer starts (msconfig.exe), then, I got a message that I had to start the msconfig.exe in “Normal” (I don’t remember). When I clicked there and decided to restart my computer, the virus was actually running, causing the Windows Defender to fail. My computer freezed up and I had to turn it off by pushing the power button. Ever since that, my computer won’t restart normally. I tried restarting my computer in Safe Mode, but it does not function… All I see are a bunch of addresses leading me to the system32 folder (which has the virus). I need serious help. I’ve got important stuff there that I really need to recover. Is there any other possible way to remove the virus? Thank you in advance!

I tried removing Winesm32 using Hijack this and Beowulf’s method, but it keeps reappearing every time I load it up. NOD 32 never detected it and still doesn’t.

You must use system restore and restore registry after you delete the exe file.
