Windows Oversight Center was released approximately May 6, 2023. This is a good amount of time since the last version of this fake antivirus program was released. Previous versions of this fake antivirus program include Windows Process Regulator and Windows Stability Center. These previous versions were released daily. The main different is the name; however, the look is also different between the two programs. Windows Oversight Center claims to offer a variety of tools including computer safety, network security, private data protection, hard drive optimization, media components, and memory & devices. Windows Oversight Center displays in the bottom part of the program system information for the computer, which includes the name of the processing unit, the brand name of the processing unit along with the company logo, the speed of the processing unit, and the operating system of the computer.

Windows Oversight Center is generally installed without user permission through the use of a trojan horse, which is downloaded while browsing the internet through some type of software security flaw. Windows Oversight Center attempts to be legitimate by making itself look like the legitimate Microsoft Security Essentials program and has the words “ask for genuine Microsoft” at the bottom of the program.
