Win Defrag (WinDefrag) is a fake defragmentation software. Win Defrag is the newest in a line of fake defragmenter programs, which include Ultra Defragger and Check Disk. Win Defrag is generally installed through the use of a trojan horse, which is generally downloaded while browsing the internet. The virus will display errors such as:
Boot sector of the hard drive disk is damaged – Critical Error
Files placement on hard drive is not optimized. Defragmentation is required – Performance Issue

When attepting to open a program, Win Defrag will generally display “a hard drive error occurred while starting the application” and block the application from starting.
