Windows Simple Protector claims to offer a variety of services including System Security, Privacy, System Utilities, System Information, Media Tools, and Internet Security. Windows Simple Protector (most real antivirus program don’t do this) displays in the right hand area of the program system information such as the name of processing unit, the speed of the processing unit, and the operating system of the computer. Windows Simple Protector is generally installed without user permission through the use of a trojan horse, which is downloaded while browsing the internet. The user is generally shown a fake system alert which has been downloaded while visiting a website; the fake alert will prompt the user to download Windows Simple Protector to remove the virus. When the user pushes “OK” on the alert, it generally will then download Windows Simple Protector onto the user’s computer. Windows Simple Protector attempts to look legitimate by making itself look like the legitimate Microsoft Security Essentials program. The probable goal of doing so is to hopefully trick the user into purchasing the fake program. Windows Simple Protector comes from a family of fake antivirus programs which attempt to look like Microsoft Security Essentials.
